Do you often wake up with itchy eyes, a sniffily nose and just generally feeling miserable after a sleepless night? What we don’t often consider is that the cause could actually be our bedding and what may just be lurking, if not kept fresh and clean!! Follow these tips from the linen experts and sleep sound and snuffle free every night …
MATTRESS MANAGEMENT -
Sneaky little dust mites are a common cause of allergies as they live in every mattress, no matter how much it costs you. One simple way protect your mattress is to invest in an antibacterial, anti-fungal, hypoallergenic, microfibre mattress protector. The reason we always recommend using microfibre is not only the fact that it is the MOST hypoallergenic, allergy free, product on the market but also due to the fact that you just pop these products in the washing machine (every other week if you like) and microfibre is super-fast drying and back on the bed within the hour!
TIP: Remember that dust can gather underneath your bed and on curtains and blinds so a good wipe down with a damp cloth or cleaning wipe can assist.
Another big tip for bedding hygiene is to replace your pillows a least every 1-2 years (bet you didn’t know that!) We all regularly wash our pillow cases and pillow protectors (make sure you buy the microfibre, zipped pillow protectors) BUT most people don’t realise what can be lurking on the inside of a used pillow. Every evening that you sleep on your pillow causes it to absorb body oil, dead skin cells, and hair, sounds awful right? It doesn’t have to be. There’s a simple solution - just keep your pillows fresh and hygienic by encasing them in quality, washable pillow cases and protectors and replace them every few years. This will definitely alleviate the big problem of dust mites.
TIP: If you’re an allergy sufferer make sure to buy only quality microfibre pillows and steer clear of feather & down.
LUSCIOUS FRESH LINEN -
We all love that fresh, crisp sheet smell and feel! Here’s a few tips to keep your linen looking, feeling and smelling fresh & fabulous. Always store linen in a cool, dry cupboard; a damp linen cupboard can result in mould on your luscious linen and nobody wants that! We recommend cotton, bamboo or a cotton/polyester blend sheets (these will wash up the best and last the longest). Always Wash your sheets weekly (have a couple of spare sets of sheets for every bed in the house and rotate weekly), ensuring you that bed freshness all week long.
WASHING TIPS: When laundering bedding it is important not to overstuff the washing machine. Don’t overdo the detergent and avoid very hot temperatures when washing and drying. DO NOT use bleach, it is too harsh on cottons and natural fibres.
